Dr Michael Limerick

Dr Michael Limerick is the Principal of Limerick & Associates. Michael worked for the Queensland Government from 1994 to 2007, holding a range of legal, policy and management positions including Director of the Policy Research Branch in the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy.  Since 2008, he has worked as a consultant, focusing on policy research, program evaluation and community governance and development in Indigenous and regional communities. 

Michael has degrees in law and political science. His PhD research focused on the performance of Aboriginal community governments in Far North Queensland. Michael is also a practising barrister with a specialisation in local government law. He has drafted local laws for a number of Queensland local governments.

Michael is Adjunct Associate Professor at the Institute for Social Science Research at University of Queensland.

Associate consultant

Melissa Sutton

Melissa Sutton is an Associate Consultant at Limerick & Associates. She has more than ten years’ experience in State government strategic policy, program and legislative development, including seven years’ experience in Indigenous policy. Since leaving government, Melissa has undertaken consulting projects have in the areas of local government, community engagement, government and industry partnerships and Indigenous participation in the resources sector.

Melissa has degrees in law and arts, majoring in criminology and justice studies. She has particular expertise in research, analysis, legislative drafting and interpretation, and the negotiation of complex policy and legislative initiatives across government and with key industry and community stakeholders.

associate consultant

Louise Limerick

Louise Limerick is a partner in Limerick & Associates and has tertiary qualifications in Arts (psychology and English) and high school teaching, and a master’s degree in counselling.  She has experience in facilitating groups (including women, school students and people with a disability) using creative approaches such as art therapy and creative writing.  She has strong cross-cultural communication skills (including tutoring Indigenous students and working with mothers at an Indigenous kindergarten).  She has also published two novels.
